A sinus lift, also known as a sinus augmentation, is a minor surgical procedure that adds bone to your sinus cavity to elevate the sinus floor. It is usually done in conjunction with a bone graft procedure.
These two procedures are done to increase the volume of bone in the jawbone, in preparation for a dental implant procedure that replaces missing teeth.
For thin lower jaws, bone grafting may be done to add bone and bulk up the jaw structure to support an implant.
For upper jaws, the main structure that’s in the way of implant placement is the maxillary sinus. This is a pyramidal air space occupying much of the upper jawbone above the teeth. Grafting may be safely done in the sinus to similarly increase the bone available to hold implants.
These procedures can be safely and comfortably performed under local anaesthesia, and we do offer options for sedation and general anaesthesia as well.
Do consult your doctor for an examination and X-rays to determine your suitability for the procedure!
