Paediatric Oral Surgery

Our team of trained surgeons work hand in hand with our paediatric and orthodontic colleagues to provide a comprehensive treatment to your little ones. We emphasise the need to deliver in a fun and stress-free environment for the little ones. The surgical procedures that are commonly performed are as below.

Exposure or removal of impacted teeth and/or supernumerary (extra) teeth in the mouth

A child’s teeth may be unable to erupt normally. This is very common and could be due to blockage by other teeth or growths in the jaws. To assist in their eruption, oral surgery may be required to expose and to remove the blockage accordingly. In certain scenarios, our surgeons may work with your orthodontist to expose an unerupted tooth and attach a chain to provide traction to guide the tooth into eruption at the right location.

Some children also present with extra teeth in the mouth termed supernumerary. They are in addition to the normal set of teeth in the mouth and can cause obstruction of eruption or misalignment of the adult teeth. They require removal in most cases as well.

Removal of growths and mucoceles

Our oral surgeons are also proficient in removing growths in the mouth. The most common of these are mucoceles – small saliva filled bubbles which are usually caused by trauma to the area. These necessitate removal surgically as they may continue to expand if left unattended. The clinic has state of the art equipment to perform the procedures safely and minimise scarring and bleeding during and after the procedure.

IV Sedation

For the comfort of you and your child, our clinic also offers IV sedation. Our highly qualified anaesthetists are trained to provide IV sedation in our office. They will continuously monitor your child’s vital signs throughout the procedure. IV sedation is a safe procedure with minimal side effects and your child will have little or no memory of the procedure. Feel free to discuss with our oral surgeons on the use of IV sedation.
